The Price at Pacific Resident Theatre

Seeing The Price at Pacific Resident Theatre, I was reminded what I love about live theater, it’s all about the language. With a simple plot, a single setting, and excellent performances by all four actors, we are hanging on every word. The liveness of it united everyone in the space, allowing the play to come through. I think it was Edward Albee who said that the goal of a production is to be better than the experience of reading the play, which is nearly impossible, since in a production choices have to be made which inherently limit the imagination. But a good production can expand upon the text, making it come alive in a way that we couldn’t get from the page, and that was my experience here. The Price is one of Arthur Miller’s better works, with similarities to Death of a Salesman. To me, the play ultimately left me thinking about life, and whether or not the sacrifices we make are truly worth the price. Playing through April 12th, 2026.
